debate

"Be silent! Keep your forked tongue behind
you teeth. I have not passed through
fire and death to bandy crooked words
with a witless worm!"
-Gandalf

i wish stephen harper could drop that line when dealing with a four on one attack as he did time and time again in both the french and english debates. i reckon that wouldn't be perceived well by most i guess, but it would be awesome, and i also reckon the media would call him a liar for not literally passing through "fire" and "death"
but if elizabeth may can get away with calling canadians stupid maybe he could get away with that "minor stretch"

guess what bill, you're a ten.

is it weird that i watch these commercials over and over again?

with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly

so, last night... Sigur Ros live.

First off, when i found out that they weren't going to be accompanied by their usual string and brass section i was more than a little disappointed, for months i have been pouring over live videos of them on youtube and watching their dvd over and over and over again. I was looking forward to the FULL Sigur Ros experience.

That being said, the first chord that jonsi hit with his bow filled the entire auditorium with this sound (which i am sure will be not unlike the sound of the apocalypse) that completely engulfed the entirety of my being. When his three band mates joined in i completely forgot my previous longing for the accompaniment of strings and brass. I had no idea that only four people could create such a robust sound.

Their set included a surprising amount of older songs that have a much darker sound to them, which made the whole show an emotional rollercoaster. When they played dark heavier feeling songs the video which was projected behind them reflected the heaviness with black and white abstract-ish images . And when they played happy light songs the video was light and colourful and the overall mood just made me want to laugh and hug someone.

They ended their regular set with "gobbledigook" which is undoubtedly one of the happiest songs you will ever hear in your lifetime. During the song bright lights and confetti filled the entire space sometimes so thick you couldnt even see the stage its hard to describe the emotion and energy that one felt during that song, i guess i would sum it up with the words emmense joy.

I am sorry if this sounds like a book report, its hard to describe such an experience and this was the best way i could think of.

do yourself a favor and go see them for yourself.

summer goings on

i have had this blog for a solid six months but until now i have not been tempted to write anything, but here we are...

i had asked charlotte to remind me of the things we did this summer, instead of re-typing it i'm just going to paste it in here and add notes of my own:

"Charlotte. says:
um we went on our trip
(stratford, toronto, and ottawa)
Charlotte. says:
we saw plays
(Hamlet and There Reigns Love: a reading of shakespears sonnets)
Charlotte. says:
we went to stratford
(We thought our tickets said June 22...they said July 22)
Charlotte. says:
we cooked
(amazing things)
Charlotte. says:
we had our dessert nights
(amazing nights)
Charlotte. says:
we watched many a cooking show
(we only watch food network, or so you think you can dance)
Charlotte. says:
enjoyed the unexpected bike rides"
(very unexpected)

it was such an amazing laid back summer
, though a few times i neared the abyss of financial ruin, but small jobs here and there provided enough to get through. my summer ended with taking charlotte back to school two weeks ago, i dont know why they start so early down there but i guess that way they get their moneys worth...
